Residents comments about the CSUN School
The idea that the new high school at CSUN is a "teaching Academy" is absurd. It is first and foremost being built to handle overcrowding at Monroe High School. The students who attend Monroe do not live in Sherwood Forest or anywhere near the proposed new school. Neither Granada Hills or Cleveland are overcrowded so there is no way that any student from those schools (no matter how much they want to become teachers) will end up on the CSUN campus.
LAUSD made decisions and hired consultants (at enormous expense 30,000 per month times 12 months times 11 districts) to persuade the communities to accept what LAUSD had already decided. Discussion or approval from community members was not the objective. Every homeowner who values their property needs to be at this meeting in full opposition to LAUSD and CSUN.
Janis S. Hahn 11-18-00
To John Chandler, CSUN has adopted a policy of blaming everyone and accepting no responsibility for the consequences of the University's actions and inactions. By failing to involve the surrounding community prior to announcing CSUN's commitment to the Academy high school you demonstrated that you have little, or no respect for your neighbors. Now, by putting the blame on the LAUSD for failing to be forthcoming you further demonstrate that you will not cooperate with, or involve, your neighbors in planning that affects them and the surrounding community. You may posture, and disclaim, all you want, but everyone else can see the truth. The more you deny responsibility, the deeper your guilt.
I had hoped the arrival of a new President would break the dysfunctional attitudes of CSUN administrators who seem to believe that the 'only four year University in the San Fernando Valley' has the arrogant power to wreak damage on the Northridge community and no responsibility to their taxpaying neighbors. Sadly, I seem to be wrong.
