Northridge Community Council Minutes of Meeting 7-17-02

Minutes of the NORTHRIDGE COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING July 17, 2002 President Walter N. Prince called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.

A report on government community relations by Doreen Kneffer regarding the CSUN Master Plan was given.

Greg Smith was quoted as saying that on July 25th at a Done meeting; our certification will be discussed as a separate issue. Rita Moreno is the new DONE representative. The holdup is the language regarding the voting rights of the stakeholders. We want the "town hall" concept to prevail. We were notified that nothing meaningful has occurred with the neighborhood councils that have so far been certified.

Don Larsen heads up a small Northridge Council group located in apartment complexes. Our group is the larger Northridge Council group. A report was given on the North Hills Community Council Meeting where there were approximately 70 attendees.

Lorrie Magnuson reported on the drive-through fast food issue in Porter Ranch. The residents opposed it using "illegal spot zoning" and sent off a petition against it to city officials.

There will be a meeting on July 25th at the Airtel Plaza Hotel.

Walter Prince is on the Design Review Board in Porter Ranch and he reported on plans for Porter Ranch. We were advised there is in the planning stage a four-phase development going in on Rinaldi/Winnetka. Phase I will have 308 condo units. Patio homes are also included. There is a possibility of over a thousand homes to be built.

Also discussed is the property on Aqueduct and Nordhoff. The community opposes what the developers want to build there.

It was noted that the succession issue has prompted repair of city streets.

A coming crisis in California is water resources. With regards to continued developments, enough water for everything is going to be a big issue. Charles Brink stated that toilet to tap is a definite possibility. This issue will be postponed till after the November election.

DWP sold their property at the Metro Station on Parthenia and Wilbur to the Sanitation Department. They are giving away free mulch. It is open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
