10-16-02 Meeting Agenda

The Northridge Community Council will hold its next meeting on October 16, 7:30 pm, at Northridge Hospital in The meeting will be in the penthouse in the Institute for living building north of the parking lot. The Hospital is providing the room and we have the parking fee discounted to $1.00. Park in the parking structure on Etiwanda, south of Roscoe.  Direction signs will be posted.

The Northridge Council consists of all Northridge stakeholders. A Stakeholder is defined as anyone who lives, works or owns property in the area (Los Angeles City Charter, Sec 906(3)). Stakeholders vote on all& advise the council makes to LA City. The Officers and Directors make internal decisions for the council.

We will ask you to sign in at the meeting and please provide an E-mail address so we may notify you of meetings and addresses. See our privacy policy. Under the Brown Act you are not required to sign in or provide any information to speak or participate. All stakeholders will have an opportunity to address the meeting on each agenda item and can make a 3 minute comment on issues that are not on the agenda in the Public Comment time.

3 New Business

A Candidate’s forum for the third Council district for the new city.

 The Northridge Committee Council’s area is in both District 1 and 3. We are had the candidates for District 1 (portions of Northridge, North Hills and Granada Hills) speak at our last meeting, and for District 3 (portions of Northridge, Chatsworth and Porter ranch) at this meeting.

We intend to use the following format:

Each candidate will have two minutes to present an overview of their positions.

Then each candidate will be asked to answer the following questions regarding what they intend to do if elected:

1. Public safety issues

2. Traffic issues

3. Education (we know that the new city council does not control LAUSD but has considerable influence in deciding the future of LAUSD or it’s breakup)

4. Will they agree not have illegal signs placed. Go here for the sign law:

5. Why they are running for office and their position on secession.

If there is time, we will ask for questions from the audience and we  will ask the candidates will stay around to answer personal questions after the meeting.

B Representatives or Brad Sherman and Robert M. Levy who are running to Congressional district 17 will have 3 minutes to present their positions

C. Two candidates for CD 1 that missed our last meeting (Kim Thompson was at a funeral in Ohio and Donald Larson was unavailable) will have a three-minute opportunity to present their position.

D A brief presentation on the local bond issues

E The Northridge community council condemns LAUSD for their choice of placing their construction meeting for the New Valley High School at the same time and night as our standard council meeting. Our meeting is always on the third Wednesday and is posted on our web site as a future meeting date for least 90 days. We wish that the meeting be rescheduled so that the council added stakeholders might participate in meeting.
