Northridge Community Council 9-18-01 Update |
We are sending you this E-mail as you have requested to be notified concerning Northridge Community Council events and projects affecting Northridge.
We're sending this e-mail as a reminder to attend the Northridge community council meeting on September 19th. 7:30 PM, at the Northridge United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, 9650 Reseda Blvd. (map) - Agenda.

We're going forward with our meeting because the terrorist attack was designed to shut down the United States. We believe that continuing onward and building communities such as Northridge, which includes people of all faiths coming together, defies the terrorists and promotes our country.
We believe it's very important to attend and vote on our bylaws.
The first version is public Town Hall forum where every person in the community, (the stakeholders) vote and make all decisions. In this form all meetings are public and all documents are available to the public because of the adoption of the Brown Act and the Public Records Act. See

The second version is where stakeholders elect a board that makes all decisions for the community. This is a miniature L.A. City Council of Northridge. This version can operate in private, as it does not adopt the Brown Act for public meetings or public records. see

A private version of a community council has been formed in secret meetings to which the public was not invited. It is attempting to operate under the our name. They have elected a board and bylaws but have refused to disclose any information about themselves. DONE has asked our public Northridge Community Council to join with this private group. See report on meeting

The only fair way to make this decision is to bring it to a vote by the stakeholders, and it is on our agenda.
Our agenda has been posted at four public locations (at the Northridge Library, Porter Ranch Library and Northridge Park). Every person who has given us their name and address has either been sent the agenda by

By fax for those with FAX numbers and no e-mail,
Called to remind people with only telephone numbers and no E-mail or Fax, and
Sent by mail to the few for the few we have only addresses without phone numbers or e-mail.
It is important that you go to our Web site and look at all the proposed changes. DONE has copied these changes and we will distribute them at our meeting.
We will be handing out a written ballot on these issues. The stakeholders will make the sole decision. It will be in a town hall forum and we will be asking you to identify yourself on the ballot and as to which class of stakeholder you are. Town hall votes are always public and interestingly the Brown Act also prohibits secret voting. We also want to make sure that people who are not a stakeholder, as defined under the L.A. City Charter as either a resident, a property owner, or employee within the area vote. This is to prevent people from outside our community from imposing their will on our community.
DONE will not provide one cent for outreach, we must rely on the Internet and word of mouth. Please talk to your neighbors and if you can make copies of this e-mail, give it to them. Please request that everyone provide their e-mail addresses so we may keep in communication. We do not share our e-mail list with anyone. (See our privacy policy).

Let's all come together on Wednesday night and show our support for democracy by attending this meeting and voting on the critical issues of public or private council.
